Barriers to health and disability: weak social ties.

Corinne is visually impaired. On the street, people sometimes grab her arm and lead her away... without asking her permission. "Just because we have a vision problem doesn't mean we have a brain problem—we're capable of responding!" she exclaims angrily. Examples of goodwill, inappropriate assistance, but also contempt and indifference abound in the testimonies. Two studies have gathered the experiences of people with disabilities. The results, sometimes eye-opening, show just how clumsy society—often out of ignorance—can be, and how the living environment is ill-suited to the needs and health of these individuals.
