Key Points
In Week 16 (April 13–19, 2026), the number of emergency department visits decreased among children aged 2–14 (-8.5%, or 5,662 fewer visits) and remained stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.
The increase in emergency department visits continues, at levels comparable to those of previous years:
- for chickenpox among children, particularly those under 2 years of age (+33%, or +59 visits), and among those aged 15–74 (+21%, or +12 visits).
- for insect bites among children under 15 years of age (+21%, or +24 visits), as well as for allergies among those under 2 years of age (+6%, or +12 visits) and those 75 years of age or older (+12%, or +15 visits).
Among children under 2 years of age, there was also an increase in visits for gastroenteritis (+9%, or +136 visits) and abdominal pain (+8%, or +45 visits).
