Key Points

  • In Week 06 (February 6–12, 2023), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.

  • Emergency room visits for influenza/flu-like illness are on the rise again for the third consecutive week, across all age groups (+10% among children, or +215 visits, and +15% among adults, or +356 visits), with a more pronounced increase among children under 2 years of age (+18%, or +79 visits) and adults over 75 years of age (+29%, or +93 visits). This increase is accompanied by a moderate rise in other respiratory conditions, though these remain at levels comparable to those of previous years: bronchitis among those aged 75 and older (+10%), pneumonia among those aged 2–14 (+12%), and ENT conditions among those aged 15–74 (+9%).

  • Visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise among children under 2 years of age (+71%, 65 visits vs. 38 in Week 5) and remain stable at low levels in other age groups.

  • There has also been an increase in vomiting among children under 2 for the fourth consecutive week (+13%, or 75 visits), with the number of visits for vomiting exceeding previous years’ levels among both children and adults, as well as an increase in visits for dehydration among children (+23%, or 20 visits).

  • Finally, among adults, visits for suicide attempts among those aged 45 and older rose slightly (+8%), as did those for conjunctivitis (+12%), remaining at levels higher than in previous years.
