In French Guiana, maternal and child health services (PMI) have adapted to the region’s specific challenges: economic insecurity, a shortage of private healthcare providers, and a proactive approach to reaching out to isolated communities living along rivers in the interior of the territory. The PMI provide prenatal care, family planning services, and pediatric care for populations facing difficulties accessing healthcare and support. Precarious living conditions and demographic pressure make the PMI’s task difficult within a context of strict budgetary constraints.
