Key Points

Emergency department visit data from the Oscour® network

  • The prevalence of mental health disorders among adults in 2021 returned to the levels seen in 2019 and 2018.

  • Among children, there has been an increase in the average monthly number of emergency department visits for mental health disorders in 2021 compared to 2020 (+43%) and 2019 (+23%), as well as visits for suicidal acts, particularly among 11- to 17-year-olds.

  • The frequency of emergency department visits for suicidal ideation is increasing across all age groups.

  • The average monthly number of visits for mood disorders in 2021 is comparable to that of 2019 and 2018.

Data on medical procedures from the SOS Médecins associations

  • Decrease in consultations for anxiety and behavioral disorders in 2021 compared to 2020 (-20% and -14%, respectively).

Mental health indicators (CoviPrev survey)

  • Significant increase in the frequency of depressive states and sleep disorders reported by respondents.

Analysis of the last two months (October and November)

  • Increase in the average monthly number of emergency room visits for mental health issues in children, including suicidal acts and suicidal thoughts.

  • Stability in the average monthly number of emergency room visits for mood and anxiety disorders.

  • Slight decrease in the average monthly number of emergency room visits for mental health issues in adults.

  • Decrease in the average monthly number of SOS Médecins calls for anxiety, depressive states, and behavioral disorders.
