Epidemiological surveillance in the Lorraine region. Update as of October 1, 2015.

Key Findings

  • Over the past month, the number of allergy diagnoses recorded by emergency departments has stabilized at around 100 per week, representing less than 1% of all diagnoses. Regarding the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association, activity related to these conditions ranges from 17 to 12 diagnoses per week and accounts for between 2.3% and 1.5% of total activity.

  • In week 39, the weekly number of asthma diagnoses remained high for both data sources: 69 diagnoses were made by emergency departments and 14 by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association. Nevertheless, this condition accounts for less than 1% of activity in Lorraine’s emergency departments and just under 2% of that of the SOS Médecins association.

  • In week 38, asthma diagnoses primarily involved children under 15 years of age. In week 39, children under 15 accounted for 57.5% of asthma diagnoses compared to 43.5% for those aged 15 or older for emergency departments, and 57.2% of diagnoses compared to 42.8% for those aged 15 or older for the SOS Médecins association. The distribution by age group was consistent across both data sources.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is very low in Moselle and nonexistent in the three other departments of Lorraine.

  • Based on available data, no unusual increase in mortality has been observed in Lorraine over the past few weeks. Since the time lag for reporting death data exceeds 7 days, data for week 39 are currently being consolidated.
