Summary

HIV/AIDS

• In 2016, in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region, the rate of new HIV diagnoses was the highest in mainland France (excluding the Île-de-France region).

• Heterosexuals born outside France (40%) and gay and bisexual men born in France (38%) accounted for the majority of cases in 2016–2017. The proportion of late diagnoses had decreased to 24% in 2017 (34% in 2012–2016).

Recent syphilis

• The vast majority of syphilis cases were among gay and bisexual men (90%). The proportion of diagnoses made during routine screening had increased (38%), while the proportion of cases presenting with STI symptoms had decreased (40%).

Gonococcal infection

• The majority of gonorrhea cases were among gay and bisexual men in 2017 (56%). The proportion of diagnoses made during routine screening increased (37%), while the proportion based on the presence of STI symptoms decreased (30%).

Prevention

• In the Centre-Val-de-Loire region, the number of people who started PrEP has steadily increased since 2016.
