HIV Infections

  • LaboVIH Participation & Comprehensiveness of Mandatory Reporting (MR)

    • LaboVIH Participation: 87% in 2024, stable but slightly down over two years

    • Completeness of mandatory reporting: 95% in 2024, a slight decrease after several years of improvement

  • HIV Testing (LaboVIH / SNDS / VIHTest)

    • HIV serology rate: 91 per 1,000 inhabitants in 2024, rising steadily since 2015

    • SNDS: 68.5 per 1,000 inhabitants in 2024, continuing to rise, but below the national average outside the Île-de-France region (82 per 1,000)

    • Higher screening rates among 25–49-year-olds (women and men).

  • New HIV diagnoses

    • 126 crude cases in 2024, 143 adjusted (for underreporting, missing data, and reporting delays) [123–163], or 55.3 per million inhabitants (higher than the national level excluding Île-de-France: 46.1)

    • Cisgender men and those aged 25–49 constitute the majority

    • The proportion of early diagnoses is estimated at 33%, a level slightly higher than that observed in mainland France excluding Île-de-France.

    • Late diagnoses remain common, as at the national level.

  • Incidence and Undiagnosed Population

    • The number of new infections (diagnosed or undiagnosed, excluding infections prior to arrival in France) is estimated at 100 in 2024 [95% CI: 75–128],

    • The number of people living with HIV without knowing their HIV status is estimated at 266 in 2024.

Bacterial STIs

  • Chlamydia trachomatis infections

    • Screening

      • Continuous increase since 2018, with the highest rates among women aged 15–25, followed by those aged 26–49

      • The Centre-Val de Loire region is among those with the lowest screening rates.

    • Diagnoses:

      • Increase since 2019 (due to the combination of Ct/Ng NAATs (nucleic acid amplification tests)).

      • Highest rates among men and women aged 15–25

    • CeGIDD data

      • Cases of chlamydia:

        • 65% men,

        • 59% under 26,

      • 80% with heterosexual intercourse in the past 12 months

  • Gonococcal infections

    • Screening

      • Steady increase since 2018, with the highest rates among women aged 15–25 and 26–49

    • Diagnoses

      • Continuing rise, highest levels among women and men aged 15–25 and men aged 26–49

    • CeGIDD data

      • Cases of gonorrhea:

        • 85% men,

        • Mostly aged 26–49,

        • high proportion of sex between men (59%)

  • Syphilis

    • Screening

      • Significant increase, especially among women aged 15–25 and 26–49

      • Centre-Val de Loire is among the regions with the lowest rates.

    • Diagnosis

    • Cases primarily affect men and those aged 26–49

    • CeGIDD data

      • Recent syphilis cases:

        • 90% men,

        • mostly aged 26–49,

        • 61% of MSM

Prevention

  • Condoms

    • 3.82 million sold in 2024 in the Centre-Val de Loire region, down 2.9% from 2023 (3.3% of national sales)

  • 2025 Campaigns

    • Three campaigns:

      • HIV/STI prevention among people from sub-Saharan Africa,

      • Regular testing among MSM,

      • Condom use among adolescents.
