Health Monitoring in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region. Bulletin of May 27, 2026.

Key Points

Extreme heat, heat waves

  • In S21, heat-related emergency room visits increased significantly in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region: compared to S20, there was a doubling in the number of visits and the share of emergency room activity for the iCanicule indicator (hyperthermia/heatstroke, dehydration, and hyponatremia). A slight increase in fainting episodes was also observed. At SOS Médecins, however, heat-related medical procedures remained stable.

West Nile virus infections

  • No indigenous cases have been detected in the region, or more broadly in mainland France, since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1).

Pollen and allergies

  • Pollen exposure was at a moderate to high level, linked to grass pollen.
  • Allergy-related activity at SOS Médecins is trending upward, at a level typical for the season.
