Making health information more accessible

Starting in March 2020, the public was inundated with a flood of information about the coronavirus, its spread, and its dangers, as well as the preventive measures needed to protect oneself at work, at school, on public transportation, and elsewhere. This situation has brought the concept of health literacy into sharp focus—specifically, how individuals need the skills to find and understand relevant information in order to make informed decisions about their health. In France, 44% of adults have insufficient health literacy—a problem that is more pronounced among older adults and/or those from disadvantaged backgrounds. This finding calls for measures tailored to different individuals.
