In France, the National Education System’s social services department is a specialized social services agency organized according to the groups it serves: schoolchildren, students, and staff. Social service assistants and technical social service advisors working within the social services department for schoolchildren are members of the educational community and contribute directly to the public service of education. As part of a comprehensive prevention approach, they contribute to the implementation of health and citizenship education initiatives, as well as to the prevention and resolution of students’ personal, social, and family difficulties, through individual and group-based activities involving listening, assessment, support, and mediation, with the aim of reducing inequalities and promoting the individual and social success of all students.
