Anorexia: A deep-seated fear of being dependent on others that leads the individual to physically withdraw. [Interview].
Anorexia is a disorder of attachment stemming from a panic-stricken fear of dependence on others, which leads the individual to physically wither away, explains Professor Maurice Corcos, who warns that the trend of extreme thinness among young girls continues. Despite warnings from professionals, too little has actually been done. As a result, care for adolescents suffering from anorexia is inadequate, with a ratio of one available bed for every 20 urgent requests in his department. The multidisciplinary care approach involves the family.
