Addressing gender issues in schools: a cross-curricular approach that goes beyond sex education.
The school nurse plays a key role in communicating with and listening to middle school students. She serves as the point of contact for all questions regarding romantic relationships, sexuality, contraception, and family relationships—topics on which she is most frequently consulted. The issue of gender is addressed during emotional and sexual education sessions co-led by the nurse and the life and earth sciences (SVT) teacher, who work specifically to highlight stereotypes. They also help students become aware of their own perceptions of men and women.
