SOS Médecins National Newsletter, December 18, 2023
Key Points
In Week 50 (December 11–17, 2023), activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable across all age groups compared to the previous week.
The increase in cases of influenza/influenza-like illness continued at a consistent rate across all age groups, though at a less pronounced rate than in Week 49 (+11% across all ages, or +784 cases, vs. +25% in Week 49, or +1,397 cases).
After an upward trend observed since Week 37 for pneumonia-related cases, Week 50 shows a stabilizing trend among both adults and children (for the second consecutive week). Among children, however, the observed level remains very high compared to the previous two years.
Among children under 2 years of age, cases of bronchiolitis are down for the second consecutive week (-16%, or -135 cases in Week 50 vs. -15%, or -153 cases in Week 49).
Among other indicators, there was an increase in procedures for gastroenteritis among adults (+8%, or +253 procedures) and among children (+9%, or +204 procedures), as well as for vomiting among those aged 75 and older (+59%, or +23 procedures). There was also an increase in procedures for conjunctivitis among children under 2 years of age (+29%, or +107 procedures) and for anxiety among those aged 45–64 (+20%, or +36 procedures). These indicators, however, remain at levels comparable to those of previous years.
