Key Points

  • In Week 19 (May 8–14, 2023), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups, with the exception of children under 2 years of age, where there was a 7% decrease.

  • The main indicators and most common conditions in emergency departments showed little change in Week 19. The few increases were observed among children, particularly those aged 2–14, linked to the return to school across all regions, though with low numbers (acute bronchitis +20%, asthma attacks +11% among 2- to 14-year-olds, abdominal pain +13% (i.e., +325 visits)). There was also an increase in visits for neurological disorders (+17%, or +136 visits).

  • Among adults, there has been an increase in visits due to suicidal behavior among those aged 15–44 (+7%, or 63 additional visits).
