Key Points

  • In Week 12 (March 17–23, 2025), compared to the previous week, emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable among adults and increased among children, particularly those aged 2–14 (up 6%, or 4,065 visits, and up 5%, or 307 hospitalizations, respectively).

  • Among children, emergency department visits for trauma are on the rise, particularly among those aged 2–14 (+11%, or +2,455 visits). Among respiratory indicators, there was an increase in visits for pneumonia (+13%, or +57 visits), as well as for asthma attacks (+7%, or +126 visits) and acute bronchitis (+14%, or +17 visits) among 2- to 14-year-olds. Visits for ENT conditions are also on the rise among children (+8%, or 559 more visits) as well as among those aged 75 and older (+11%, or 14 more visits).

  • Among visits related to digestive conditions, visits for gastroenteritis are increasing among children aged 2–14 (+11%, or +262 visits), as are visits for vomiting (+12%, or +122 visits). There is also an increase in visits for dehydration among children under 2 years of age (+33%, or +12 visits).

  • Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever among adults (+5%, or 61 more visits), as well as for suspected COVID-19 among children aged 2–14 (27 visits vs. 14 in S11) and among adults (+27%, or 60 more visits), with numbers remaining low.
