Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, May 25, 2021

Key Points

  • The number of deaths remains significantly higher than expected between weeks S40-2020 and S18-2021 at the national level. However, the number of deaths was declining in weeks 17 and 18.

  • The excess deaths primarily affected people aged 65–84 through week 19, and to a lesser extent people aged 15–64 between weeks 12 and 18.

  • As of May 25, the number of deaths from all causes in week 19 was within the usual range of fluctuation in all regions. These results for weeks 18 and 19 should be interpreted with great caution, given the extended reporting delays associated with the long weekends of Ascension Day and Pentecost.
