Psychiatry and mental health remain on the back burner in our society [Interview]

Professor Nicolas Franck warns of burnout among psychiatric care teams while highlighting their dedication, and points to the significant number of unfilled positions. Based on his daily practice, he offers practical recommendations to improve care for people with mental health disorders. Among these are: the widespread use of mobile teams that treat people in their homes, and the establishment of mental health reception, assessment, and referral centers in urban areas, as close as possible to residents. We must also promote recovery-oriented care by relying on “peer supporters,” who should be integrated into all care teams. These proposals are no more costly than hospitalization but are better suited to the current context.
