Vaccination in Corsica. Overview of vaccination coverage in 2023.

Key Points

  • Vaccination coverage among infants, who have been subject to mandatory vaccination since 2018, remains insufficient for the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, with coverage at 81% for the second dose of this vaccine at 33 months. Given the current circulation of the measles virus, only a two-dose vaccination coverage of at least 95% is likely to interrupt transmission of the virus. Furthermore, coverage rates for the hexavalent and pneumococcal vaccines are among the lowest in mainland France.

  • Although vaccination coverage against meningococcal C has increased by 6 percentage points among adolescents, catch-up vaccination remains highly insufficient among young people aged 15 to 19, with a vaccination coverage rate of 34%.

  • 71% of infants born in 2023 received at least one dose of the meningococcal B vaccine at 8 months of age, representing a 23-point increase compared to the previous year.

  • 44% of infants born in 2023 received at least one dose of the rotavirus vaccine by 8 months of age, the only vaccine with coverage exceeding the national average.

  • 46% of 15-year-old girls and 14% of 15-year-old boys began their HPV vaccination series. HPV vaccination coverage increased in 2023, with a 5-point increase among girls and an 8-point increase among boys compared to 2022. HPV coverage remains far from the 80% target set in the 10-year cancer control strategy for 2030.

  • At the conclusion of the first phase of the HPV vaccination campaign in middle school, as of December 31, 2023, it is estimated that approximately 34% of girls and 22% of boys aged 12 (born in 2011, mostly enrolled in 7th grade) have received at least one dose of the HPV vaccine. These estimates account for vaccinations administered in middle schools and in the community. An increase in vaccination coverage of 14 percentage points among girls and 13 percentage points among boys was observed between the start and end of the first phase of the campaign, although it is not yet possible to specify the gain directly attributable to the campaign.

  • Vaccination coverage against influenza, COVID-19, and shingles remains very low among at-risk individuals. Influenza vaccination coverage is declining among people with risk factors. COVID-19 vaccination coverage was 14% among those aged 65 and older. Less than 1% of people aged 65–74 are vaccinated against shingles.
