Pays de la Loire Public Health Bulletin. April 2018.
Summary
Vaccination coverage rates in the departments of the Pays de la Loire region are in line with the French average.
For DTPc and Hib vaccines, collective efforts must continue, particularly in Loire-Atlantique and Mayenne, to ensure and maintain high levels of protection for the population.
For hepatitis B and pneumococcal vaccines, coverage is improving by several percentage points each year, aided by the simplification of the vaccination schedule and the use of the hexavalent vaccine. Coverage reaches up to 95% in the department of Vendée.
Coverage with the MMR vaccine continues to rise, reaching 80% for the full two-dose schedule. It remains insufficient; it has not prevented the resurgence of measles cases that western France has been experiencing for several weeks, primarily affecting people ineligible for vaccination (infants under 1 year of age, adults born before 1983) as well as populations with limited access to vaccination.
While on average two-thirds of children aged 2 to 9 were vaccinated against meningococcal C (up to 73% in Mayenne), coverage among adolescents and young adults remained well below this level, failing to achieve the herd immunity necessary for the indirect protection of infants who are particularly vulnerable to the bacterium.
HPV vaccination coverage is largely insufficient, with only one in five teenage girls protected by age 16. This does not allow for the expectation of a significant long-term impact on (pre-)cancerous lesions of the cervix in adults.
