Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 14, 2015.
Over the past week in the region:
- The bronchiolitis outbreak is subsiding in the western part of the region and is expected to end next week. In Angers, the outbreak began later: emergency room visits by infants and RSV isolations at Angers University Hospital remain high.- The outbreak of gastroenteritis (GEA) diagnosed by SOS Médecins and emergency departments has been on the rise for the past three weeks. - Influenza activity is increasing in the region, with alert thresholds having been exceeded for two weeks now (SOS Médecins and emergency department visits). Preliminary data from Week 3 confirm this trend. The identified viruses are predominantly type A. Eight cases of severe influenza, including five individuals over the age of 65, have been hospitalized in intensive care since week 52 of 2014. - Emergency department activity is at a very high level for individuals aged 75 and older, particularly for pneumonia.- Outbreaks of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and gastrointestinal infections (GI) in long-term care facilities are on the rise, with 12 new outbreaks reported in the past week.
