Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of July 4, 2013.
Key Points - Assessment of the Health Situation as of July 4
Heat wave risk monitoring: all departments are on seasonal alert, and the monitored indicators do not show any particular trend at this time.
Other surveillance: Use of emergency rooms and SOS Médecins services for respiratory conditions remains stable (asthma, pneumonia, dyspnea/respiratory failure)
Vector-borne diseases: Since May 1, coastal departments where the tiger mosquito is established have been subject to enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue. Among 20 reports of suspected cases, 8 cases of dengue—all in travelers returning from abroad—have been identified, and appropriate measures have been taken among their contacts. No locally acquired cases of chikungunya or dengue have been identified since the start of the season.
Furthermore, no suspected cases of West Nile virus fever have been reported since surveillance began on June 1.
