Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of June 19, 2014.

Mortality:
The number of deaths recorded based on vital statistics data (all ages and those aged 75 and older) remains in line with the expected number for this period.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations
No significant changes.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)
Note: 8 cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been reported since last month in the 33rd department, with no indication of clusters based on available information.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance
Since May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in the Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde departments, which are infested with Aedes albopictus, 17 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 6 cases of chikungunya, 4 cases of dengue, and one co-infection have been confirmed, all of which were imported. To date, no locally acquired cases have been identified.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)
According to Oscour® and SOS Médecins, activity is low and in line with expectations in Aquitaine as well as in France.

Asthma and Allergies
Activity slightly up according to Oscour® and SOS Médecins in Aquitaine; more pronounced among children under 2 years of age nationwide according to SOS Médecins; forecast: high allergy risk (grass pollen) for all departments.

Heat-related illnesses
Activity has risen sharply according to Oscour® and SOS Médecins in Aquitaine as well as across France. No heatwave is forecast by Météo France.

School Absenteeism
Overall rate stable. No major health-related causes reported.
