Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of January 16, 2014.

Mortality: Mortality rates recorded from vital statistics data, across all age groups, remain stable, with figures in line with expected numbers for this period.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: The number of emergency room visits among children under 1 year of age is declining, with figures close to those expected for this period. No significant changes for those aged 75 and older.

Reportable Diseases (MDO) No significant changes this week in Aquitaine.

Virology and enterovirus meningitis: Circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses according to the Bordeaux University Hospital, notably RSV, influenza A, and rhinovirus; decrease in enterovirus meningitis.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) In Aquitaine, as throughout France, activity is high but declining according to the OSCOUR® network. In Aquitaine, the threshold has been exceeded for the third consecutive week based on SOS Médecins data. Overall activity is lower than in 2013.

Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: Moderate increase in influenza activity in Aquitaine according to OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins.

Bronchiolitis: In Aquitaine and France, activity continues to decline according to SOS Médecins, OSCOUR®, and the AquiRespi network, with 127 children treated on January 11 and 12.

Carbon monoxide poisoning: Since September 2013, 17 incidents involving 41 people, 24 of whom were transported to the emergency room (nationwide: 611 incidents, 1,809 people exposed, and 18 deaths).

School AbsenteeismOverall absenteeism rate remains stable. Several cases of gastroenteritis have been reported.
