Health Monitoring in the Normandy Region. Update as of September 11, 2020.

Key Points

Increased viral circulation in Normandy, as well as throughout France. This affects all age groups, particularly young adults (ages 20–30). Seine-Maritime was classified as an active virus circulation zone (ZCA) in week 35.

As of September 7, 2020,

  • Increase in incidence (42.8 in W36 vs. 32.1 in W35 cases/week/100,000 inhabitants) and positivity rate (4.0% in W36 vs. 3.1% in W35)

  • Effective reproduction number (R_eff) stable based on positive PCR tests for SARS-CoV-2: 1.44 (1.38–1.49)

  • Hospital data: 82 hospitalizations, including 8 in intensive care, a slight increase

  • Clusters - Cluster alerts: since May 11, 57 clusters have been recorded in the region, 9 of which are currently under investigation (5 in Seine-Maritime, 2 in Eure, and 2 in Calvados)

In week 36:

  • SOS Médecins: increase (7.6% in W36 vs. 4.8% in W35)

  • Hospital emergency departments (Oscour®): Low activity, up compared to the previous week (0.8% in W36 vs. 0.5% in W35)

  • COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities: 17 reports, including 10 with confirmed cases in Week 36 (vs. 14 reports in Week 35)

An increase in the number of cases suspected of COVID-19 was observed in Week 36, particularly over the weekend and among those under 15, likely linked to the return to school and group settings. Rise in mortality in Normandy, likely linked to the heatwave observed in Week 33.
