Health Monitoring in the Normandy Region. Update as of May 13, 2022.
Key Points
COVID-19
In Week 18, SARS-CoV-2 circulation in Normandy continued to decline, with an incidence rate (IR) of 450 per 100,000 inhabitants (-21%) and a positivity rate of 25.4% (-4.4 percentage points).
This decline in the IR was observed across all departments in Normandy and for all age groups, except among those under 10 years of age, following the drop caused by school holidays.
In the pre-hospital setting, emergency department activity for suspected COVID-19 continued to decline, while the number of SOS Médecins calls increased.
The trend in the number of new hospitalizations was downward, as was the number of people hospitalized in general wards and in intensive care units. The number of new admissions to intensive care remained stable. The number of deaths in hospitals was also decreasing.
Influenza and Flu-Like Illness
In week 18, all indicators were again on the decline. The number of emergency department visits and SOS Médecins consultations for influenza-like illnesses was decreasing, to levels similar to those observed in 2019–2020. The volume of activity was also decreasing in emergency departments as well as in community settings. The number of isolated influenza viruses was decreasing (6 at Caen University Hospital and 23 at Rouen University Hospital); all were type A, with co-circulation of the AH3N2 and AH1N1 viruses.
No severe cases were reported by the intensive care sentinel network in week 18.
Acute Gastroenteritis
The number of emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis across all age groups remained stable, while the number of consultations at SOS Médecins was decreasing. The proportion of SOS Médecins consultations and emergency department visits was at a moderate level and similar to that of the 2019–2020 season. Among children under 5, the number of cases in emergency departments was increasing, and the number of SOS Médecins visits was rising slightly. The incidence of acute diarrhea estimated by the Sentinel Network was increasing and at a higher level than in 2019–2020.
