Health Monitoring in the Normandy Region. Update as of December 18, 2020.
Key Points
COVID-19
In week 50, several indicators are on the rise in the Normandy region, notably the incidence rate, the positivity rate, and the effective reproduction number (which reflects the rate of spread). The increase in the incidence rate could be partly explained by an increase in the number of tests conducted and the number of clusters reported and investigated, which could indicate a resurgence of the epidemic. Regarding mortality, the age-standardized all-cause mortality rate has been classified as moderately elevated since Week 43. The weekly number of deaths among patients hospitalized for COVID-19 is decreasing.
Bronchiolitis and Gastroenteritis
In week S50: activity for bronchiolitis remains low and below levels seen in previous years. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), responsible for the majority of bronchiolitis cases in children under 2 years of age, has not yet been isolated in the laboratories of Normandy university hospitals. Current respiratory infections are mainly caused by rhinoviruses. Activity for gastroenteritis also remains low in week S50; however, the incidence rate has reached the previous year’s level for the first time this season.
