CoviPrev: Epidemiological Update in Normandy. February 2021
Key Points
Adoption of protective measures and behaviors
Stable and consistently high adherence to hygiene measures throughout the waves.
Decrease in the adoption of distancing measures starting in May 2020. An increase in the adoption of these measures was observed in September–October 2020, though it did not reach the level seen during the first lockdown.
A gradual increase in the adoption of mask-wearing in public since the start of the epidemic, with 89% of respondents reporting compliance with this measure in Wave 18 (November 2020)
A relaxation of precautionary behaviors likely contributed to the resurgence of viral circulation during the summer of 2020, its acceleration in September with the resumption of school and work activities, and led to the onset of the second wave of the pandemic beginning in October 2020.
Men are less likely to follow hygiene measures and wear masks in public.
People with low literacy levels generally adhere less to protective measures
Mental Health Indicators
Deterioration of mental health indicators in Normandy since September 2020
Sleep disorders remain at high prevalence levels (approximately 60%) throughout the waves
Significant decrease in the prevalence of anxiety and depression between waves 1–6 and 7–11: likely impact of the lifting of lockdown measures
Significant increase in the prevalence of current life satisfaction scores between waves 1–6 and 7–11: likely impact of the lifting of lockdown measures
Increase in the prevalence of mental health indicators and sleep problems at the start of the second lockdown (between waves 16 and 17).
People most at risk of a deterioration in their mental health: women, those under 35, people in very difficult financial situations, and people with a history of psychological disorders
