Epidemiology of Tuberculosis in Seine-Saint-Denis, 2013–2015

The data presented here pertain to cases of active tuberculosis reported under the mandatory tuberculosis reporting system (DO) in Seine-Saint-Denis during the 2013–2015 period. While the incidence rate is low and declining at the national level, it is higher in Seine-Saint-Denis than in the rest of metropolitan France and remains relatively stable. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of reported tuberculosis cases was 1,189, with the incidence rate reaching 24.6 per 100,000 in 2015. Tuberculosis was more commonly diagnosed among men of working age, in certain population groups such as those born abroad (79.8%), particularly in sub-Saharan Africa (37%), among those who had arrived in France less than two years prior (21.6%), and among those living in poor housing conditions (31%). Respiratory tuberculosis accounted for 80.4% of reported cases. Of these, 65% were smear-positive or culture-positive. Tuberculosis case report data from 2013–2015 indicate that tuberculosis remains a major health concern in Seine-Saint-Denis, with particular vigilance required for certain populations at higher risk.
