Health Monitoring of Migrant Populations in Calais and Grande Synthe. Update as of March 18, 2016.
Key points
The MSF clinic left the Calais camp on March 1, 2016. The J. Ferry branch of the PASS is now the sole provider of primary care in the camp. Due to the incomplete nature of the data from the PASS (J. Ferry branch and Calais Hospital branch) and the Calais Hospital Emergency Department, the health data on migrants in the Calais camp are not interpretable and have therefore not been presented in this epidemiological report.
The proportion of consultations for influenza-like illnesses and acute lower respiratory tract infections continued to decline this week at the Grande-Synthe site (2% (n=4) and 4% (n=7), respectively, in week 10). In the region, following an initial decline in activity for influenza-like illnesses at the hospital and outpatient levels (SOS Médecins), activity has been on the rise again since Week 9. This situation calls for vigilance. It should be noted that during the measles vaccination campaign conducted in February 2016 at the Grande-Synthe camp, 433 people were also vaccinated against the flu.
A new case of bloody diarrhea was reported in week 10 among migrants residing at the Grande-Synthe camp, bringing the total to 2 cases since the start of surveillance. The occurrence of these cases calls for vigilance, given the significant risk of an outbreak due to the extremely poor hygiene conditions at the camp.
