Key Points
OSCOUR® Network Emergency Department Visit Data
Indicators derived from emergency department visit data should be interpreted with caution, as the exceptional health situation has had a significant impact on the volume of visits to these departments for conditions other than COVID-19. Nevertheless, the following emerges:
A decline in emergency department visits for psychological disorders during the first two lockdowns and an increase following the third lockdown (May–June 2021), though at levels similar to those seen in 2018 and 2019, except among those under 18, where the increase was more pronounced.
An increase in visits due to suicidal behavior in 2021 among 11- to 17-year-olds, except in April (during the third lockdown), which was not observed in the three previous years.
An increase in the number of visits for mood and anxiety disorders, across all age groups, in May and June 2021.
Data on medical procedures from the SOS Médecins associations
A sharp increase in the number of SOS Médecins consultations for anxiety during 2020 compared to 2018, 2019, and 2021, most pronounced during the first two lockdowns. This increase primarily affects those aged 18 and older.
An increase in medical procedures for depressive states from May to August 2020 and over the last three months of 2020, compared to the same period in previous years.
Mental Health Indicators: CoviPrev Survey
A deterioration in mental health indicators related to anxiety, depression, and sleep problems during lockdown periods, with a significant improvement following the lifting of lockdowns.
