Health Surveillance in the Grand Est Region. Epidemiological Update as of June 2, 2017.
Key Points
Enhanced Surveillance for Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika
In mainland France, Aedes albopictus, known as the "tiger mosquito," is established in 32 departments. In 2017, Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin were classified as Level 1 departments under the plan to prevent the spread of chikungunya and dengue in mainland France, due to the mosquito vector’s long-term presence. These departments are part of the enhanced surveillance system for chikungunya, dengue, and Zika in mainland France, which is active from May 1 to November 30 each year.
Regular updates on this surveillance will be included in upcoming epidemiological bulletins.
Asthma Surveillance
The proportion of asthma diagnoses in emergency department activity remained stable at the end of May (weeks 20 and 21).
For the SOS Médecins associations in the region, asthma-related activity fluctuates within the low ranges typically observed at this time of year.
Allergy Surveillance
Allergy-related activity has increased significantly in outpatient care over the past two weeks. It has reached the highest peak observed in the last three years.
According to the pollen and allergy bulletin, the allergy risk is moderate to high for grass pollen across all departments in the Grand Est region. This is linked to the summer high-pressure conditions currently being observed.
Mortality Monitoring
As of May 30, 2017, the number of deaths observed over the past few weeks falls within the usual range of fluctuation.
