Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of June 5, 2014.

Key Findings

  • The latest virological data from the Strasbourg University Hospital confirm the decline in the circulation of respiratory viruses observed in recent weeks. Rhinoviruses and enteroviruses are the most commonly identified viruses in samples testing positive for respiratory viruses, and a few RSV cases continue to circulate.

  • Activity related to gastroenteritis has remained low and stable for several weeks, according to data from the SOS associations. Rotaviruses and noroviruses continue to be identified by the Virology Laboratory at the Strasbourg University Hospital.

  • In weeks 21 and 22, allergy-related activity was high for the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg. This was not the case for the association in Mulhouse.

  • Despite a slight increase in asthma-related activity in week 20 for the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg, this activity was low in week 22 for both associations in the region.

  • Since the beginning of spring, activity related to conditions potentially caused by heat has remained low or nonexistent for both SOS Médecins associations in Alsace.

  • The National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA) indicates in its latest bulletin that Alsace remains at high risk for grass pollen allergies.
