COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Grand Est Region as of September 2, 2021
Key Points
In the Grand Est region, the number of new cases decreased in week 34 of 2021 (7,006 compared to 7,748 in week 33 of 2021), as did the number of people tested (328,249 in week 34 of 2021 compared to 360,423 in week 33 of 2021). The incidence rate also fell to 127.1 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and still exceeds the threshold for active viral circulation (set at 50 per 100,000 inhabitants). The positivity rate, meanwhile, remained stable (2.1% compared to 2.1% in week 33 of 2021).
Viral circulation is on the rise among those aged 0–9, but is declining in all other age groups: this decline is most pronounced among those aged 20–29 (-21%). Incidence rates range from 43.3 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants among those aged 80 and older to 204.9 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants among those aged 20–29.
Viral circulation is declining in four of the region’s ten departments: Aube, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle, and Vosges. It remains stable in Ardennes, Marne, Meuse, Bas-Rhin, and Haut-Rhin. It is noted that viral circulation is on the rise in Haute-Marne. In week 34 of 2021, all departmental incidence rates exceed the threshold for active viral circulation of 50 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Haut-Rhin, Moselle, and Bas-Rhin have the highest incidence rates, with 209.9, 146.4, and 134.6 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively.
