COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Grand Est Region as of March 18, 2021
Key Points
In week 10 of 2021, the number of new cases continues to rise (11,730 new cases compared to 10,332 in week 09 of 2021). The number of people tested is also increasing (207,192 people in week 09 of 2021 compared to 178,397 in week 09 of 2021). The incidence rate continues to rise (212.8 new cases per 100,000 residents compared to 187.5 in week 09-2021) and remains below the national incidence rate (252.5 new cases per 100,000 residents). The positivity rate has remained stable over the past three weeks (5.7% compared to 5.8% in week 09-2021).
The epidemic situation remains concerning in week 10 of 2021, with viral circulation well above the threshold for active virus circulation (set at 50 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants) and an upward trend. Viral circulation remains high across all age groups, ranging from 104 per 100,000 among those aged 0–9 to 300 per 100,000 among those aged 20–29. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of new cases tested in week 09-2021 are under 50 years of age (31% are between 20 and 39 years old) and are therefore, in principle, at low risk of severe disease.
In week 10 of 2021, viral circulation is increasing in all departments of the region: the Ardennes (192 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Aube (348 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Marne (221 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Haute-Marne (151 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Meurthe-et-Moselle (221 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Meuse (214 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Moselle (268 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Bas-Rhin (199 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Haut-Rhin (134 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), and Vosges (163 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). The situation remains particularly concerning in Aube, where the incidence rate is still rising sharply and remains the highest in the region.
