COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Grand Est Region, June 3, 2021

Key Points

  • In the Grand Est region, the number of new cases tested in week 21 continues to decline (4,289 new cases compared to 5,640 new cases in week 20). This decline comes as the number of people tested remains high (183,287 compared to 230,424 people in week 20).

  • The incidence rate has declined for the eighth consecutive week (78 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants compared to 102 in weeks 20–21 and 115 in weeks 19–21) and remains below the national incidence rate (91 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

  • However, after modeling the potential impact of the decline in testing activity due to Pentecost Monday, the incidence rate is estimated at 93.2 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, representing a potential decrease of 9%, confirming the slowing of the decline.

  • The positivity rate remains unchanged this week (2.3% compared to 2.5% in weeks 20–21 and 3.2% in week 19–21). The decline in new infections that began with the third lockdown appears, however, to be losing momentum as collective containment measures are gradually eased.
