Tuberculosis Surveillance in the Centre Region. Summary of Reported Cases in 2013.

In France, and in our Centre-Val de Loire region, tuberculosis primarily affects poor and vulnerable communities, particularly immigrant communities from countries where the disease is endemic. Although the annual number of cases continues to decline steadily in France, tuberculosis remains the most frequently reported notifiable disease, with 4,934 cases reported in 2013 in France, including 179 in the Centre-Val de Loire region. The Cire Centre invites you to read an epidemiological report (ER) on tuberculosis. This EP presents the results of surveillance in the Centre-Val de Loire region for cases reported in 2013. An 18% increase in the reporting rate was observed between 2012 and 2013, contrasting with the steady decline seen in previous years. However, the tuberculosis case rate in the Centre-Val de Loire region in 2013, although higher than the national median, does not call into question the overall downward trend that has been observed for more than 10 years in the Centre region. Disparities between departments are still evident regarding the sociodemographic characteristics of cases. Indre has a lower reported rate than the other departments in the region, whose reported rates are similar, with Cher having the highest rate. As in the previous year, at least half of the reported cases born abroad lived in Indre-et-Loire and Loiret. These disparities must be taken into account in our region’s public health strategies. In 2013, pediatric cases accounted for 8% of cases in the Centre region and are on the rise compared to previous years. The increase in severe forms among children, observed since 2012 at the national level, is affecting the Centre-Val de Loire region. Vigilance regarding pediatric cases must be maintained in the region.Tuberculosis remains a public health issue in our region, requiring continued efforts to ensure that the vaccination recommendations of the High Council for Public Health (HCSP) are properly followed, to maintain vigilance in screening for cases and providing therapeutic care, and to continue implementing investigations and systematic case-based screening strategies in accordance with HCSP recommendations.
