Health Monitoring in the Bourgogne and Franche-Comté Regions. Update as of September 1, 2022.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • No signs of increased SARS-CoV-2 circulation in week 34 (August 22–28). The incidence rate is slightly decreasing (171 per 100,000 inhabitants), which is slightly lower than the national incidence rate: 181 per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate is also decreasing (19.8% vs. 21.6% in week 33), amid a decline in testing.

  • The Omicron variant is circulating almost exclusively in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region (99% of RT-PCR samples sequenced in week 32).

  • The latest available screening data suggest that the BA.4/BA.5 sublineages are the overwhelming majority (92%) in the region. Interpretation is limited by the small number of sequenced samples available for recent weeks.

  • Regarding hospital activity, the number of new hospitalizations is declining, while the number of new admissions to intensive care is increasing slightly. The number of deaths in hospitals is also rising (15 vs. 12 in S33).

Extreme heat, heat wave

  • No unusual increase in activity at emergency departments or SOS Médecins associations in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

  • Indicators for heat-related illnesses remain at low levels.
