Health Monitoring in the Bourgogne and Franche-Comté Regions. Update as of March 24, 2022.
Key Points
COVID-19
SARS-CoV-2 viral circulation is rising sharply, resulting in increased incidence and positivity rates across all age groups. While incidence rates among those over 45 are rising by more than 60%, the incidence is highest among those aged 25–44 (948 vs. 729 per 100,000 population among those aged 45–64). Against a backdrop of increased testing, the positivity rate is very high among those under 15 (around 36% vs. 23–32% for other age groups).
The situation described at the regional level is consistent at the departmental level, with high viral circulation in all departments, incidence rates between 630 and 862 per 100,000 inhabitants, and positivity rates between 27% and 33%. The largest increase (over 60%) in incidence is observed in two departments (Jura and Nièvre).
Flu
The region has been in an epidemic phase since last week.
Activity at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments continues to rise significantly, exceeding 2019–2020 levels. This trend should be interpreted with caution due to a lack of data transmission from SOS Médecins for two out of four associations starting February 16, 2022.
Five new severe cases of influenza were reported by the intensive care unit sentinel network this week (a total of 13 ICU admissions since late 2021).
A new outbreak of acute respiratory infection (ARI) in a community setting (7 ongoing outbreaks / 24 reported since September 1, 2021. Among the reports, 5 are linked to influenza).
Bronchiolitis
End of the epidemic since S04-2022.
Activity at SOS Médecins clinics and emergency departments for bronchiolitis is low and is within the ranges observed during the two previous seasons or even lower.
Acute gastroenteritis
The activity rate for gastroenteritis reported by SOS Médecins is higher than in previous seasons.
The rate of emergency department visits for gastroenteritis has been rising for the past three weeks, approaching the peak of the 2019–2020 season at an unusual time.
