Key Points

In Week 28 (July 12–18, 2021), SARS-CoV-2 transmission accelerated in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes amid declining adherence to protective measures and the spread of the Delta variant, which has become the dominant strain in the region. The adjusted* regional incidence rate saw a very sharp increase (+181%) to 73 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, below the national incidence rate (99/100,000), which also rose sharply. The virus is circulating primarily among those aged 15–44 but is also spreading across all age groups. The regional positivity rate (2.3%) is also rising significantly. The testing rate has increased by 15%.
