COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of November 19, 2021
Key Points
Circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus remains high in Martinique. The incidence rate rose in week 45 amid an increase in testing. It was more than twice the alert threshold. For the first time in several weeks, the reproduction number (Reff) was again significantly above 1, a sign that the epidemic is no longer declining. The number of new hospitalizations remained high. This continued active circulation of the virus should be viewed in light of the vaccination rate, which has stagnated with only a 0.5-point increase between weeks 44 and 45. The risk of a resurgence of the epidemic is significant, and the situation must be monitored closely in the coming weeks.
