COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of June 4, 2021

Key points

Guadeloupe

The epidemic continues to subside. The number of emergency room visits was down compared to week 2021-20. New hospital admissions (all departments) were also down. Nevertheless, hospital pressure persisted with a significant number of hospitalized cases across all departments and in intensive care. The variant of concern 20I/50Y.V1 (Alpha) is actively circulating in the archipelago (>95% of screened RT-PCR tests). Due to incomplete data, SI-ESMS and vaccination data are not presented for the region.

Saint-Barthélemy

Virological surveillance indicators recorded in week 2021-21 remained low and stable against a backdrop of relatively stable testing rates. In hospitals, no new hospitalizations have been recorded in the past three weeks.

Saint Martin

In week 2021-21, virological surveillance indicators remained stable at a high level despite increased testing. New hospital admissions were up compared to the previous week, while the number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable. A new cluster was reported in week 2021-21, and two new deaths were recorded at the start of this week (2021-22). The virus is actively circulating, and the situation is being closely monitored. Individual prevention measures, collective containment efforts, and the acceleration of vaccination must be strengthened.
