Heat Wave and Health in Normandy. Bulletin of July 15, 2026.

Key Points

  • Météo-France issued an orange heat wave alert for the Eure and Orne departments starting July 8, which was extended to all of Normandy from July 10 to 13 (with the Orne department under a red alert from July 11 to 13). Only the Eure and Orne departments remain under an orange alert for July 14.

  • An increase in emergency care visits related to iCanicule (hyperthermia/heatstroke, hyponatremia, and dehydration) is being observed at a level similar to that of the heatwave in late May 2026.

  • An increase in hospitalizations following visits to the emergency room is observed for the iCanicule indicator, at a higher level than that observed during the heat wave in late May 2026.

  • Although an increase in SOS Médecins calls related to iCanicule is observed, the proportion of activity remains lower than that observed during the heat wave in late May 2026.

  • All indicators of healthcare utilization are at a lower level than those observed during the heat wave in late June 2026.

  • In particular, an increase in requests for iCanicule assistance was observed in the departments of Calvados, Manche, and Seine-Maritime.
