Barriers to physical activity: findings and motivational strategies

While the benefits of engaging in adapted physical activity (APA) are now well established in the context of secondary and tertiary prevention of chronic diseases, these benefits are only realized through regular and sustained participation. However, a significant portion of the affected population does not meet the recommended levels of activity, a situation that can be attributed in particular to psychological or motivational barriers. This article aims to synthesize current knowledge regarding the motivational barriers and drivers identified by international research, and to provide recommendations for professionals seeking to implement interventions designed to promote sustained physical activity among patients with chronic diseases.
