Nutri-Score, a logo that’s a hit with the French
Today, during a meeting with manufacturers and retailers, Santé publique France presented the results of the third wave of the survey on French people’s awareness and perception of the Nutri-Score logo. On this occasion, Health Minister Agnès Buzyn launched the 4th National Nutrition and Health Program (PNNS).

Nutri-Score
Developed as part of the PNNS initiative, the Nutri-Score logo addresses the French public’s expressed need for clear nutritional information. It informs and guides consumers in a simple and accessible way. Using a letter and a color, Nutri-Score informs consumers about a product’s nutritional quality.
The survey published today reveals that Nutri-Score is not only being used more frequently but is also better recognized by consumers. In fact, three times as many people today as a year ago have purchased a food product bearing the Nutri-Score (41% in May 2019 versus 13% in April 2018). And awareness of this nutritional labeling has risen sharply, from 58% in April 2018 to 81% in May 2019.
It is also evident that French consumers are paying increasing attention to their diet, as 85% consider nutritional quality to be one of the criteria in their product choices, and 13% report using an evaluation tool (apps, logos, etc.) to assess it.

Regarding the implementation of Nutri-Score and its visibility on store shelves, support has risen from 36% in April 2018 to 65% in May 2019, and more than 180 manufacturers and retailers now use Nutri-Score, with the most recent additions being Nestlé Céréales and Panzani. Furthermore, when asked, “Is the Nutri-Score logo easy to spot on packaging?”, 85% of French people agree (+4 points).
The survey also reveals that Nutri-Score influences food choices for more than 4 in 10 people familiar with the logo, compared to just 3 in 10 in April 2018.
