COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for May 26, 2022
Key Points
In Week 20, Sars-CoV-2 transmission continued to decline, accompanied by a drop in hospital admissions nationwide. However, virological indicators remained very high in Martinique and Guadeloupe.
Mainland France:
Continued decline in virological indicators across the entire country
Hospitalization rates are declining in all regions, stable in Corsica
Overseas territories:
Virological indicators remain very high and are rising slightly in Martinique
Incidence rate remains high in Guadeloupe, though slightly declining
Variants
Omicron BA.2 sublineage dominant: 97.4% of interpretable sequences from the Flash S19 survey (05/09)
Increased detection of BA.4 and BA.5 in recent Flash surveys, but still at low levels at this stage
Prevention
Vaccination as of May 23, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):
Vaccination coverage for the booster dose was 74.2% among those aged 18 and older (84.1% among those aged 65 and older)
Only 34.1% of those aged 60–79 and 26.9% of those aged 80 and older eligible for the second booster dose have actually received it
The continued circulation of SARS-CoV-2 necessitates maintaining appropriate measures, particularly to protect the most vulnerable, hence the importance of continuing to:
isolate yourself if you have symptoms or test positive for COVID-19;
practice individual preventive measures: first and foremost, wearing a mask (in the presence of at-risk individuals and in crowded indoor spaces or at large gatherings), washing hands, and frequently ventilating enclosed spaces.
