Teamwork in healthcare facilities: a renewed ethical debate

A small revolution in primary care is gaining momentum: 1,500 multi-professional health centers (MSPs), supported by the government, bring together general practitioners, nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists, and many other healthcare professionals. For these independent practitioners, choosing to work within an MSP means developing a unique ethos and reconnecting, in a different way, with the community-oriented medicine long championed by salaried professionals in municipal, mutual aid, and nonprofit health centers: working as a team, developing health initiatives for patients seeking care as well as for local residents, and, to that end, forging new types of partnerships. In practice, professionals there are therefore engaged in ongoing ethical reflection on approaches that challenge their established habits. This reflection applies not only to the care relationship with a patient and their family and friends, but also, when developing collective initiatives, to relationships with other professionals, institutional partners, and community representatives.
