The author, director of the Center for Bioethics at the Catholic University of Lyon, examines the concept of risk within the broader context of the choices we make throughout our lives, which involve not only individual freedom but also social norms (acceptability by the community). She highlights the various facets of the concept of risk: from the individual’s acquisition of autonomy or independence to the assumption of responsibility that connects the individual to others, as well as the role of ethics in establishing the representations and reference values that influence decision-making. Briefly, she outlines the implications of this reflection on the approach that health educators should adopt regarding prevention.
