Performing quality work: a key factor in mental well-being

Addressing mental health in the workplace cannot be reduced to superficial measures aimed at preventing psychosocial risks (PSRs) or promoting well-being. Dietary advice, lifestyle guidance, gyms, and other recreational spaces reflect a health-promotion approach that places the burden of responsibility squarely on the individual, and these measures will never be sufficient on their own. We must address the structural determinants of mental health at work: the value and meaning of work, the opportunity to perform high-quality work, involvement in organizational changes, greater decision-making autonomy, and the ability to balance work and personal life.
