Occupation: Health mediator for the Asian community

The mediator at the Association for Research, Communication, and Action on Access to Treatment (Arcat) provides preventive care and health support tailored to the needs of migrants from East Asia. To do this, she adapts prevention information to reflect their culture, way of thinking, speaking, and feeling. She also tailors the information to their social and educational backgrounds so that it is understood and accepted. If necessary, the mediator also acts as a liaison with medical teams; in particular, she explains medical consultations that patients did not understand. The goal: to give these individuals—who are disadvantaged by an environment they do not fully understand—the means to take charge of their health by accessing appropriate information and care.
